‘Trunk’ Show

Whenever I do a 'trunk' show, I typically have someone ask me, "what is a trunk show"? I usually say, well, it refers to a temporary pop-up show where the artist or designer brings her trunk full of wares to show and sell, and then pack up your trunk and go home. I figured it had to do with the way people packed and traveled in the olden days - with big trunks (like suitcases) only bigger, and sometimes fancier - with built-in shelves and beautiful wallpaper-like linings. But then it got me wondering so I looked it up. Here's what Wikipedia says" "trunk show" is a special sale in which vendors present merchandise directly to store personnel or select customers at a retail location or another unique venue. In many cases it allows store personnel to preview and/or purchase merchandise before it is made available to the public. There you go. I think there's more to it so I'll let you know if I find out.

Opening of Color and Line

Thursday 6-8 is the opening of the Color and Line Exhibition at the New Coast Studios Gallery in Palo Alto. There will be work from 20 artists covering a great variety of media. Can’t wait to see how the other artists approach their color and line. For me, color is a way of life. It may seem like an easy task using dye on silk to get and hold the color you want, but it’s tricky. It’s a slippery slope. A small addition of another color or water can change EVERYTHING. Line, on the other hand is even more difficult. Now you see the line. Now you don’t. Did someone say ‘a straight line'? Anyway, I’ll report back on the event.

Blogging isn’t so bad.

Easy to say when it’s only my second post. But really. It’s fun to talk about my work! Have you ever heard the joke about the couple that went out on the date? He was talking about himself the whole evening and then he turned to her and said, “enough me talking about me, now you talk about me!” That’s basically my blog. I imagine this will evolve into a place of inspiration and exchange, but for now…..enjoy my new site. I hope it shows the vibrancy and drama of my paintings in a new light. It’s tough to accurately show the movement. But there will be a video at some point. In the meantime, check out the video showing part of my process on the ‘In the News’ page.

My Very First Blog!

Wow, this is crazy. A new website AND a blog. Time to put down the paint brushes and pick up the pen. I must admit it's a bit scary to think that my every word will bounce around the globe. From San Mateo to Moscow to Istanbul and Sri Lanka. Hopefully. Well, let's see what happens in cyberspace. Here's a photo of a piece I sold awhile back and think of from time to time. It's called 'Distant Calling' - like the words in cyberspace. Distant-Calling.jpg
