Project Description

As I was painting this and musing about how time isn’t what we think it is, multiple mass shootings claimed the lives of many fellow citizens. It led me to question the saying “time heals all wounds” since each of us — and our society as a whole — must do the healing work. It also led me bristle at the cliche that ‘Guns don’t kill people. People do.’, bestowed upon our culture in the name of something I don’t understand.

The cool and calm blues and greens of the painting’s surface belies its hidden layers — perhaps of beauty but also of disharmony, tension, and doubt below… just as thoughts and prayers are simply band-aids on the suppressed grief, angst and trauma that touches this society daily.
